New Surgeon Joins Medical Staff at EMC

Dr. Thomas Boshell and Dr. Craig Peterson of Surgical Associates of South Alabama (SASA) provide general surgery and endoscopy services in our area at Evergreen Medical Center. They have recently recruited another surgeon, Dr. Charles Lovelady, to allow SASA to provide more surgical coverage in our area. “EMC is pleased to have someone as qualified as Dr. Lovelady join our medical staff. We have a good working relationship with Drs. Boshell and Peterson and look forward to Dr. Lovelady joining Surgical Associates and the EMC surgical team” states Bob Humphrey, Administrator of Evergreen Medical Center.

Dr. Lovelady, a native of Scottsboro, AL and board-certified surgeon, is a graduate of the University of Alabama. He attended the UAB School of Medicine and completed his Surgical Residency Program at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. Since 1996, Dr. Lovelady has been in private practice in general surgery in north Alabama. “I had the opportunity to spend some time with Dr. Lovelady when he was visiting our community and feel he will be an excellent addition to our medical community. I am looking forward to working with him”, states Dr. William Farmer, EMC’s Chief of Staff.

Dr. Lovelady is excited about the transition to the communities of Evergreen and Brewton. He enjoys collecting and touring on motorcycles, and working on and driving his vintage race cars. He participates in competitive driving events with his favorite event being One Lap America, otherwise known as Cannonball Run. He and his sweetheart Susan also enjoy walking, collecting and watching movies, and dancing. He has two sons Charles Kelly (24) a graduate of Auburn University, and Stuart (18) who will be entering college this fall.

“The Surgical Services Department is excited to have Dr. Lovelady join our surgical team. This will allow us to expand our services from three to five days a week. Expanding our coverage days will decrease the time that our patients have to wait to have their procedure”, states Ann Nobles, Surgical Services Nurse Manager.
