The Respiratory Therapy Department at Evergreen Medical Center provides a broad range of the most current services in respiratory therapy to patients of all age groups. The respiratory staff performs a variety of tests, which assist in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of several heart and lung ailments. The respiratory department also provides breathing treatments and supplemental oxygen therapy, which aid in the prevention, reduction and or management of breathing related conditions. Respiratory therapy hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. On call services are available after normal hours of operation.
EMC’s Dietary team provides meal services & nutritional care for patients. The staff works hard to provide homemade nutritious food to inpatients and their guest, as well as our employees 365 days a year. In addition, they provide catering for special events such as medical staff meetings, executive committee meetings, and special lunches for guest visiting EMC.
Your physician will determine your diet while you stay with us. If you are having food brought in, please check with your nurse to make sure it fits within your dietary guidelines.
Meals are served daily as follows: Breakfast (7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.), Lunch (11:50 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.), and Dinner (5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
This committed team is always working behind the scenes to prepare meals. The goal of the Dietary Department is to prepare delicious, healthy food, which will enhance our patient’s recovery. Overall customer satisfaction is the ultimate goal.
The department operates under the supervision of Angela Pressley CDM/CFPP(Certified Dietary Manager/Certified Food Protection Professional), who works hard to ensure that all dietary & nutritional needs for patients are met. It is also under the direction of a licensed dietician.
Evergreen Medical Center is staffed with an accredited pharmacy school and Alabama State Board of Pharmacy licensed pharmacist and licensed pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacy department works with your physician to accurately supply your medication needs during your hospitalization. Included in our pharmaceutical services are IV preparations, unit-dosing of medications, self-administered intravenous pain medications (PCA), drug information, drug therapy monitoring, drug and food interactions, checking for allergies and correcting drug/dosing issues.
In order to stay current with the vast changes in medicine, the pharmacist must have at least 15 ACPE approved hours of continuous education of which 3 hours must be live to be licensed by the State of Alabama each year plus 4 hours of education at EMC. The pharmacy technicians are required to have 3 ACPE approved hours of continuous education hours each year of which 1 hour must be live to be licensed in the State of Alabama and 2 hours of education at EMC to continue employment at EMC.

We know that it is hard spending time away from home when you are not well. The staff of EMC’s environmental services department works to provide a clean & pleasant environment for both our patients & their visitors. The Case Management Department at Evergreen Medical Center is here to assist the patient when continued care is needed. Through the process of discharge planning assessment, the patient’s need for home health, hospice, nursing home, rehabilitation placement, or assisted living placement can be determined. Additional services such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation and access to durable medical equipment for home use can be also be determined and recommended. The department works closely with other agencies to help provide assistance in order for patients to receive an optimal level of care.
Health Information Management
The Health Information Department of Evergreen Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the timely processing, completeness and the retrieval of all patient medical records. These records are vital to you & your physician to document your current treatment & for future reference as well. Health Information Services include provision of an accurate patient record, with emphasis on the following:
- Record Processing
- Record Abstracting, Analysis and Coding
- Transcription of Dictation for the Medical Record
- Record Retrieval, Filing and Storage
